World Series of Poker (WSOP) is the most popular, oldest and largest poker tournament in the world. It is held annually in Las Vegas. The WSOP tournament is every poker player's dream to participate in. The WSOP started when Benny Binion invited six well known poker players to Horseshoe Casino to compete against each other. Initially the WSOP had attracted a small number of players but soon in 1982, the event had a total of 52 participants.

WSOP awards players with bracelets who win each event and the prize is dependable on the number of participants and buy-ins. The most eagerly anticipated of the WSOP tournament is of course the Main Event. The winner of the Main Event is usually addressed as the best player on the planet although it is unofficial. The latest winner of the WSOP 2008 edition is Peter Eastgate. He defeated Ivan Demidov in a pool of 6,844 entrants to take home $9,152,416 in prize money.

Featuring six weeks of "winner takes all" sit-and-go tournaments, and seven full weeks of cash games, there is action galore to keep viewers tuning in each week.

One of my friends said that the name "Players Only Poker" is a very childish (he actually said 'stupid') name of a site, but childish or not, this room is a good one. Sometimes, it's just refreshing to see something different for a change. Tournaments can sometimes be so stressful to watch, because they seem so huge and stunning. For your poker bets to be successful, you have to understand that they require two things: deftness and understanding of the mental processes involved in the game. In other words, they have to be an interplay of both brains and brawns.

Let's dwell on the "brawns" side first: any poker player has to, first and foremost, get to know the basics. Do you know what the terms ante, bet, call, raise, and fold mean? An ante is a small wager amount that all the players have to put in prior to the hand. Once you put your cash into the pot, a bet takes place. If someone wants to match the prize money you put into the pot, he makes a call. You may retaliate by making a raise, which means hiking your own or your opponent's original bet. If your opponent does not have that much money to match your call or raise, he folds. This means that he chickens out of the hand and the opportunity to bring home what was in the pot.

On the brains side: Surprise! You don't have to be honest all the time. This is where the art called bluffing comes in. It's just like when you bluff in a class recitation; you act as if you know what you're saying even if you don't. In the same way, you can act as if you've got money to make a raise or an unmatchable call to encourage your opponents to fold.
