The World Series of Poker, also known as WSOP, is a set of poker tournaments that happens to be the largest in the world. This is held in Las Vegas every year, and since 2007 it has involved 55 events. Except for the main event, these events last for more than a month. The major variants of poker are featured in the WSOP, although more than half of the events in recent years have been variants of Texas hold'em. The culmination of the series is the $10,000 no-limit hold'em main event. Since winners of this event are granted multi-million dollar prizes, thousands of hopefuls every year take their chances by participating. Each winner of an event is awarded with a cash prize and a World Series of Poker bracelet. Sponsored by Tom Moore, the World Series of Poker began as an invitational event held at the Holiday Hotel and Casino in Reno during 1968. However, the set of tournaments that would later become the World Series of Poker is actually the brainchild of Benny Binion, a Las Vegas poker player and casino owner.

Bodog.com had their iPhone competition, and they gave fifteen Let 'em Ride warriors "tech toy" rewards in the process. According to the founder (that's Calvin Ayre), it's a fact that we are all fond of the iPhone, being many things rolled in a single package, and thus, they opted to give away 15 of them in this Bodog contest. Not just that though, they distributed thirty iTunes gift cards and 30 25-dollar credits from a randomized drawing of all who participated in the Let 'em Ride Bodog contest during its run of 6 weeks. In this Bodog Contest, a winning hand is chosen at a time, beginning with 4 twos and proceeding on to the Royal. First competitor to be given the victorious hand would get an IPhone, not bad huh? If the winner is announced, that particular holding is no longer qualified, the contest goes on the following hand in the roster.

Indeed, poker is quite special because it is very hard to find other sports that showcase a multitude of nicknames for the players. A reason for this (one at least) is that poker is quite an individual contest, as opposed to team games like basketball. Think of it, Amarillo Slim is sweeter to the ears than Thomas right? (No offense to the Thomases of the world). Poker players nicknames though are just that, nicknames, and if one is really a great player, he could have the most boring name in the world, yet still be respected. Anyway, make a self-quiz, how many of the following poker players nicknames do you know? Here we go, a lot of poker players nicknames: Bobby Baldwin (the owl), John Murphy (Murphdog), Negreanu (kid poker), Men Nguyen (the Master), Paul Phillips (dot com), Greg Raymer (fossilman), Brian Roberts (Sailor), Kenny Smith (whatta player), Jimmy Snyder (the Greek), David Ulliot (DO I REALLY have to say it?), Stu Ungar (the Kid), Chad Brown (downtown), and Doyle Brunson (Texas Dolly). I am not done yet, here's more: Johnny Chan (the Orient Express), Paul Clark (eskimo), Hoyt Corkins (cowboy), Darrell Dicken (Gigabet), Esfandiari (the Magician), Chris Ferguson (Jesus), Barry Greensteain (Robin Hood of poker).

One of my friends said that the name "Players Only Poker" is a very childish (he actually said 'stupid') name of a site, but childish or not, this room is a good one. First and foremost, in this UIGEA-era, any gambling room welcoming American gamblers merits attention, and Players Only Poker is one such site. This room is basically new in the market, and one upside of a 'new kid on the block' is the coming in of a lot of newbies (of course) and even old-timers, who want to see if the new room has something novel to offer. Graphics are OK, not ugly, not exceptional, just OK. Main features are: presence of statistics at the table, availability of chatting, and tagging (opponents). What of the games of Players Only Poker: they have the mainstream- Holdem, 7-card games, Omaha HL, Omaha and they are under the various kinds- fixed limit, NL, PL, heads up and shorthanded. Naturally, Holdem is the most sought-after game in the room, as in almost all other gambling rooms. If you want tourneys, Players Only Poker has them too- S&Gs and multi-table competitions. All you need to do is take your pick, so there, I'm done. Goodluck and I'll see you -hopefully-at the tables.

You know, this online gambling site is a great 'breathe of air' vis-a-vis the UIGEA, that ever-notorious Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, and which online room? Sportsbook Poker, it is a combination of sportsbook, casino and a racebook, and it has been running since 1997. However, the USA poker rooms (yes, the site is one of the very few accepting American gamblers) just opened two years ago, but they at once became a force to reckon with. The poker rooms of the site have very loose games, and if you are a veteran card shark and you have not visited the site yet, give it a check. There are multitudes of newbies in the USA poker rooms. Their software has good graphics, and the crucial components are present, like table stats, fast action, and the fact that a gambler could play at many times simultaneously. What are the games in the USA poker rooms of Sportsbook poker: Texas Holdem of course, Omaha, Omaha HL, 7-card Stud Hl, and still others. Actually, as per the reports, real-money gamblers (this month of this year) stats showed that 1,700 ring players were present during the busiest times of the day.

Let us talk of the free strip poker which online sites offer, but I'll use the tamer phrase, "free adult poker game". This kind of poker is where the losing party (that's party as in individual) is forced to shed off one piece of his/her clothes. While it sure is interesting and enticing, not so many people are courageous enough to do it. Yes, there are many lady players (of the regular non-stripping kind) who play as prop players of online sites, but in comparison, the stripping ladies/men are quite few in numbers. (Haven't you noticed that by the way?) A lot of online poker rooms which offer this free adult poker game has games which for all intents and purposes, we'll be hard put to call poker, and you know why? You would be given a group of five cards, and then you pray that what you have are winners. The male/lady stripper would have his set, and if your set wins, she would have to let go of something. According to experts though, this is the bad thing, it only happens one out of ten, but on that score, I am taking it with a grain of salt.

There are several types of poker games, but choosing one type that's going to appeal best to you should not be an issue. Just to guide you through it, I'll be talking about one type of poker game that I like best and am really fond of: Texas Hold 'Em poker.
OK, so you're telling me, not again? But you see, I'm sure that everybody enjoys it because it's really a fun game to play. Just to give you some background information, Texas Hold 'Em is one type of a community poker game. When we say community poker game, we mean a game that requires only a single deck of cards per table. Each person on the table gets their turn on the deck and zeroes in the best hand of his choice from it. If he has the highest, then of course, he wins.
All right, so you might already be very frustrated with the way I rant about Texas Hold 'Em. You don't have to worry, though, because there are lots other types of poker games to choose from. You know what, there are some websites that are now offering alternatives to the usual variants of poker games.

Free Texas Hold 'Em poker games served as my online practice field for the monthly poker tournament we'll be conducting at the nearby village. It's going to be an inter-village competition among poker enthusiasts in the state. To prep me for the games, I chose to train through free Texas Hold 'Em games available on the Internet. How to play Texas Hold 'Em? Basically, it's a community card game, which means that instead of one deck of cards for every player on the table, you guys only have to produce one deck of cards for the entire table to be shared by all the players. Five cards from the deck are passed around the table, and the players each take turns trying to make out the best hand from this five card combination. Unlike Omaha, wherein each player has to deal four cards, in Texas Hold 'Em, you deal only two. Texas Hold 'Em is currently the most popular poker game on the Internet and elsewhere. Once, it was Seven Card Stud, which requires all the players to have their own individual deck of cards each. How did Texas Hold 'Em steal the crown from Seven Card Stud, then? It's when movie and TV producers took interest in and started seeing commercial viability in Texas Hold 'Em.

I guess there's no other poker information portal that's as complete as Poker Tips. When you log on to Poker Tips (www.pokertips.org), you'll get to see these features: the latest news in the world of poker, a poker blog site slash forum posting site, the rules of poker, poker bonus codes, online poker site reviews, strategies in poker, and of course, the terms of usage. It also presents some features every now and then, just like interviews with famous poker players, personalities who are not necessarily poker players but have contributed largely to the world of poker, and very informative and educative articles. One section I frequent the most is the Poker Tips forum site. For you to join the forums site and post in your life's stories (as long as they are in any way related to poker) and your dreams in life, you will have to sign up and provide a username and passcode. Seriously now, what sorts of things can you post on the Poker Tips forum site? Poker Tips has actually got four forum categories, that is, most of the time--the general discussion forum, the strategy forum, the French forum, and the German forum. Post anything you want to post. Just exclude your own personal poker site ads and requests for sponsorships, stuff like that.

Sometimes, it's just refreshing to see something different for a change. Tournaments can sometimes be so stressful to watch, because they seem so huge and stunning. That's sometimes also the reason why I no longer watch the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour. But when I chanced upon High Stakes Poker, I knew right then and there that I'll always stay tuned to it. There are actually not a lot of differences between High Stakes Poker and the two other poker TV shows I mentioned. Both feature poker personalities and really exciting poker games. But there are two things that set High Stakes Poker apart from World Series of Poker and World Poker Tour. Number one is High Stakes Poker's program format. Instead of the usual poker tournament ambience, High Stakes Poker employs a unique ring game setting with, well, high stakes. Number two, High Stakes Poker adopts the real money games scheme--whatever the value of the chips on the table, that's what you get. I mean, that's also the value of the money you'll receive. You won't find any chip leaders on High Stakes Poker. Now, do you want to tune in to High Stakes Poker, too? Switch TV channels to GSN network now! Catch your favorite poker players turn on to the game scene and pull off their best moves on the poker table.

For your poker bets to be successful, you have to understand that they require two things: deftness and understanding of the mental processes involved in the game. In other words, they have to be an interplay of both brains and brawns. Let's dwell on the "brawns" side first: any poker player has to, first and foremost, get to know the basics. Do you know what the terms ante, bet, call, raise, and fold mean? An ante is a small wager amount that all the players have to put in prior to the hand. Once you put your cash into the pot, a bet takes place. If someone wants to match the prize money you put into the pot, he makes a call. You may retaliate by making a raise, which means hiking your own or your opponent's original bet. If your opponent does not have that much money to match your call or raise, he folds. This means that he chickens out of the hand and the opportunity to bring home what was in the pot. On the brains side: Surprise! You don't have to be honest all the time. This is where the art called bluffing comes in. It's just like when you bluff in a class recitation; you act as if you know what you're saying even if you don't. In the same way, you can act as if you've got money to make a raise or an unmatchable call to encourage your opponents to fold.
