Active poker players are always on the lookout for poker news, new tips and strategies, and game listings. If you're one of them, the best way to stay up to date is by making a followup of Party Poker post on its affiliate sites or fan sites. These sites offer lots of information on the game and allow you to interact with fellow players. The Poker Post, for example, is a simple, friendly site offering articles, features, and blogs discussing the game. It covers all the popular varieties, such as Texas Hold 'Em, Omaha, and Seven Card Stud. There's even a section on interesting hand stories. PokerPost.net lists live poker games on a monthly basis. If you're an avid player or a cardroom owner, it's a great place for finding games and advertising your game information. The printed list is given free to members and reaches a wide audience in the poker community.

Bodog.com had their iPhone competition, and they gave fifteen Let 'em Ride warriors "tech toy" rewards in the process. According to the founder (that's Calvin Ayre), it's a fact that we are all fond of the iPhone, being many things rolled in a single package, and thus, they opted to give away 15 of them in this Bodog contest. Not just that though, they distributed thirty iTunes gift cards and 30 25-dollar credits from a randomized drawing of all who participated in the Let 'em Ride Bodog contest during its run of 6 weeks. In this Bodog Contest, a winning hand is chosen at a time, beginning with 4 twos and proceeding on to the Royal. First competitor to be given the victorious hand would get an IPhone, not bad huh? If the winner is announced, that particular holding is no longer qualified, the contest goes on the following hand in the roster.

Indeed, poker is quite special because it is very hard to find other sports that showcase a multitude of nicknames for the players. A reason for this (one at least) is that poker is quite an individual contest, as opposed to team games like basketball. Think of it, Amarillo Slim is sweeter to the ears than Thomas right? (No offense to the Thomases of the world). Poker players nicknames though are just that, nicknames, and if one is really a great player, he could have the most boring name in the world, yet still be respected. Anyway, make a self-quiz, how many of the following poker players nicknames do you know? Here we go, a lot of poker players nicknames: Bobby Baldwin (the owl), John Murphy (Murphdog), Negreanu (kid poker), Men Nguyen (the Master), Paul Phillips (dot com), Greg Raymer (fossilman), Brian Roberts (Sailor), Kenny Smith (whatta player), Jimmy Snyder (the Greek), David Ulliot (DO I REALLY have to say it?), Stu Ungar (the Kid), Chad Brown (downtown), and Doyle Brunson (Texas Dolly). I am not done yet, here's more: Johnny Chan (the Orient Express), Paul Clark (eskimo), Hoyt Corkins (cowboy), Darrell Dicken (Gigabet), Esfandiari (the Magician), Chris Ferguson (Jesus), Barry Greensteain (Robin Hood of poker).

Not too long ago, a raid happened on a poker game somewhere in Far East Dallas. While it was surely not the only raid that happened in the country, it was one of the most talked-about when it transpred. It is not the end of this, according to Dallas Texas Poker News that I've been reading, tips on illegal poker are on the rise. I am not saying playing tips on how to play stronger poker, I mean tip as in the citizen's complaint given to the police. Just last year, fifty complaints were received about unlawful gambling, that included some on 8-liner rooms. Going back to that raid, as per the Dallas Texas Poker News, 47 individuals were cited, and also a number of operators, and the authorities confiscated about a dozen gambling tables. Still according to the Dallas Texas Poker News, there are a lot of folks who are not bothered with the poker operations around them YET, there are those who are. Said one woman, bottles have been thrown at her yard, and that she is getting to be afraid. With all due respect to this woman, I do not think it is fair to blame poker per se for this kind of thing. I mean, if she has an angry enemy, poker or not, she would be inconvenienced.
